Synopsis (from IMDB): During her days of entrapment in the Quantum Realm, Janet Van Dyne encounters Kang, an "exiled" Traveler who claims that they can both escape from the realm if she can help him rebuild his Multiversal Power Core. When they manage to repair it, Janet sees a vision of him destroying and conquering worlds, in which she turns on him. Outmatched, Janet uses her Pym Particles to enlarge his Power Core beyond use stranding them further in the Realm.
This movie is not as bad as some people are saying it is in all honesty. Is it the best thing since sliced bread, of course not, but it's also not the worst of the MCU. Paul Rudd is still very likable as Scott Lang. The characters we have all gotten used to are back except for T.I. and Michael Pena. I wound up missing them, to be honest, but I don't know how you could have fit them into the story. From a visual standpoint, the movie looks great to me. The majority of the movie is spent in the Quantum Realm and they did a good job of creating the world and making it look really alien and weird. I enjoyed Jonathan Majors portrayal of Kang in Loki Season 1 and here he plays the Conqueror variant of Kang. I think he did a great job of capturing how that character is and his mannerisms. Kang the Conqueror in the comics is one of the best villains that Marvel has and it will be interesting to see what they do with that character going forward. Like all Marvel movies this movie has its comedic moments, some are good, some not so good. Outside of one joke, I don't think any of the jokes drag on. The previous Ant-Man movies have been action comedies and that tone is still here.
There are a few things that I didn't like about the movie. First, I didn't like what they did with M.O.D.O.K. and also the fact that they kept dragging the joke about why he looked the way he did. At first, it was funny but it kept going and stopped being funny. The other thing that I didn't like was how they wrote Cassie. I think the actress did a good job with what she was given but they made the character annoying in my opinion. Lastly, I think we can all agree that Phase 4 of the MCU, for the most part, has felt like filler, and the way this wrapped up I felt could have been done better. It also felt like some scenes were missing that probably could have helped explain why Kang did the things that he did.
For Parents
The movie is rated PG-13 and follows the standard MCU story beats. By now you should know what you're getting yourself into for the most part. The movie has a two-hour runtime and is paced well. There are two post-credits scenes, one in the middle of the credits, and one after the credits have finished that setup Loki Season 2.
Overall Thoughts
I thought the movie was okay. I would give it a MATINEE. Jonathan Majors did a very good job as Kang the Conqueror in my opinion. It actually got me hyped for Creed 3, with the way the fight between him and Scott went. It's not a perfect movie but then again are any of the Ant-Man movies like that, if we are being completely honest. That being said I think it's perfect for a weekend afternoon movie if you have a couple hours to waste. Have you seen Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania? What did you think?
