Thoughts on the Story & Gameplay
To be completely honest I bought this game not expecting much, I just thought it looked interesting. I was not expecting what Nintendo delivered. This story begins simple enough with the Toads bringing Peach a flyer for the opening of a Theatre House. On opening day the Peach arrives but so do the Sour Bunch Gang who take over the theater and all of its plays. Princess Peach along with Stella team up to take back the theatre house and save all of the plays, piece a cake. The game changes the gameplay by using the plays and what they are centered around whether it be action, rhythm based, platforming, or sleuthing. There is a lot of variety, personally, I was more of a fan of the action stages i.e. Swordmaster, Ninja, and Kung-Fu; than anything else. From a gameplay perspective the variety and change up is a huge plus. It kind of reminds a little of Viewtiful Joe, in that the levels all have a different theme and distinct feel.
Thoughts on the Good
There is a lot to like here one being the variety in the gameplay. To be fair the game is a little on the easy side, this may be a turn off to people but the game's challenge comes in finding and collecting the Sparkle Gems. Which depending on the level, you may finding yourself making return trips just because a few may have been missed. From a visual standpoint, the game looks great and has the same kind of whimsical style that one would expect from a Mario style game. The transformation cutscenes are pretty cool and even some of the plays have very cool moments. For example, the Ninja plays have pretty cool moments involving different types of Ninja Scrolls. Kinda makes me want a Ninja Peach and Zelda Shiek game from Team Ninja, I think it would work. The music is also pretty good and fits each level well. The art design for the different levels are very well done too. Overall just a very good job from top to bottom.
Thoughts on the Bad
There's not much I didn't like but I will say this, the game can feel to easy. Not every game needs to be Dark Souls or Contra but I can see how some people may be turned off by the difficulty. Other than that I can't really think of anything that wouldn't be considered nitpicking.
For Parents
This game is kind of what you would expect from Nintendo regarding one of its Mascot characters. This is a family game, there isn't anything scary or worrying in it. Mostly just a good time, nothing to frustrating. The game does require some thinking with a few of the puzzles and timing in regards to some of the Sparkle Gems but nothing that will make the experience miserable.
Overall Thoughts/Is the Game FUN?
What do I think of the game overall? Well I think its a lot of FUN. The variety in gameplay mixed with the music and overall design is top notch. I did not expect this game to be this much fun. I am really glad I picked it up. Check out some gameplay below from the channel. Have you played Princess Peach Showtime? What do you think? Leave a comment and let's talk about it.
