Episode Thoughts
This week's episode picks up where the last one left off with Khonshu entombed in stone and Steve/Marc without any powers. If it wasn't clear enough in previous episodes it was made clear in this one that Steven pretty much has the hots for Layla. This episode is Layla centric and I was not mad about that, yes there were a couple of cringey lines at the beginning of the episode. Overall, though, it was nice to learn a little more about her and see that she is a badass in her own right. I hope you are a fan of the Stephen Sommers Mummy movies because this episode evokes a lot of the best parts of those two films. They were able to get the tension just right with the music and the horror/thriller elements to where it felt just right and not overdone. This week was another Steven trying to become the MVP of the episode type week. He really comes in handy since he has a love for Ancient Egyptian lore. Also, a big shout out to the visual effects department as the visuals once again looked great. The team has done a very good job of making this show feel very different from the other shows in the MCU and it works. I do have one issue with this episode and that is the cliches. To me, some of their plot points especially the one as it pertains to Layla and Marc you can see coming from a mile away. I really wish they were able to do something different with their story as it is one that I know I have seen done countless times before, other than that the episode keeps to its standard quality. There is something that is very cool that happens at the end of the episode with their depiction of something important which I will go into on the Fresh Take podcast on Sunday, can't really say here because it is a spoiler and a pretty big one.
For Parents
This episode has some horror elements to it that you might now want the little ones to see. There are also a couple of images that could be deemed as scary, although in full honesty you should see it coming a mile away. Just like the previous episodes the runtime is 53 minutes and to be honest I thought it was shorter.
Overall
Another episode I enjoyed. There were a couple of points where the cliches got on my nerves because they were so obvious but everything else is really well done. The ending is interesting and I am really wondering where they will go with this as we only have two more episodes left. What did you think of the episode? Leave a comment and let's talk about it.
