Fresh Take - Halo Season 2 Thoughts

 Available on Paramount Plus

Synopsis (from IMDB):

With the galaxy on the brink of destruction, Master Chief John-117 leads his team of Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant.

Thoughts

This season of Halo had a number of improvements over the previous season. Season 2 felt more focused, narrative wise had better meaningful moments. Characters that felt like afterthoughts got to flex this season and gave them something to do. For example, the story with Soren and Laera was my favorite side story of the season and it tied into the overall narrative. The new showrunner, Kiki Wolfkill did an amazing job of keeping what made sense and tieing that into a narrative that worked throughout the entire season. While we didn't get to see the Prophets at all this season did a good job of focusing on Maake and the Arbiter and what was going on within the Covenant.  Lastly, I will say that another plus was there introduction of the Flood. I loved the look and how the tone shifted to sci-fi horror when they were released.

I did have a couple of issues with this season. One having to do with the passage of time. They didn't do a real good job with this as somethings just felt like it happened to fast and there is now way that could have happened when thinking about how certain situations happened. The other thing is that they didn't explain how certain characters wound up in the situations they were in, for example, at the end of Season 1 Halsey is on another planet planning her next moves; at the beginning of Season 2 she is captured and there is not a mention of how that happens. Also, Cortana being removed from John, an act that supposedly would kill him according to the Season 1 finale just happens and everything is a-okay. It was a little confusing to me.

For Parents

Just like season 1 this was rated TV-14. There is a lot of action and there are a couple dismemberments but its not to gory. The season finale does turn into a horror/body horror show with the introduction of the Flood so please keep that in mind. Other than that I think the show flows very well and is great for fans of the game and sci-fi genre fans.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I enjoyed the season and would highly recommend it. I think they did a good job with making the stakes high and there were a decent amount of emotional moments. It will be interesting to see if this show gets a Season 3 greenlight, I am hoping that it does seeing as how the ending was and we are finally on the Halo. Have you seen Halo Season 2? What are your thoughts? Please leave a comment and lets talk about it.
