Let's Talk - Kirby and the Forgotten Land First Impressions

 Available on Nintendo Switch

Impressions

The most adorable pink destroyer aka throat god is back in another adventure. This time the shenanigans take place in a 3D space akin to Super Mario 3DWorld. If you have ever played a Kirby game before then you pretty much know what to expect. The game is not difficult at all the challenge comes in finding and freeing the Waddle Dees in each section. This adds to the game's replay value as you will have to play levels over again because of how certain levels are laid out. From a visual perspective, the game looks great and once again Nintendo manages to make a post-apocalyptic world colorful and non-gloomy. The levels are varied and unique and have certain themes to them that play into the area that Kirby is currently exploring. As far as the gameplay is concerned HAL Laboratories made some improvements to the copy ability in this game. Now you can upgrade abilities when you find a blueprint hidden in the levels. This makes going through each level important as these upgrades can come in handy depending on the level you are in at the time. There are side missions that you can do that will grant you Rainbow stars that will help craft upgrades for your abilities. These levels can be a bit frustrating at times as depending on what you are doing there is a time limit. Don't be surprised if it takes a few times to beat some of these. The boss battles in this game can be fun if not a little weird at times just due to the size of the boss and their patterns of attacks. Once again this game isn't hard so taking down the bosses shouldn't be a problem even if you have an incompatible copy ability. Almost forgot about Mouthful Mode. Mouthful Mode allows Kirby to swallow certain objects to help solve certain puzzles or traverse through a level quickly. Some of them look weird and to be fair I think they were basically used for comedic timing on top of being for puzzles. From vending machines to stairs, to light bulbs, and cars Kirby can use Mouthful Mode in a variety of different situations. The enemy design as well is very well done. I like the art style in this game I feel like that along with the soundtrack is very well done.

For Parents

This game is rated E for Everyone. It's a fun little adventure game that's not too hard and can be great for relaxing gameplay sessions. The art style, music, and gameplay work very well together and the level design is top-notch in my opinion.

Overall

I am enjoying this game. It's a nice addition to the Switch library and has enough content to keep gamers busy. There are two modes but as I stated earlier this game is not hard by any stretch of the imagination. I'm looking forward to finishing this one as I am really enjoying myself.
