The Movie
Did you like Thor Ragnarok? If you did I think you're gonna love this one. This movie adapts the Gorr the God Butcher arc from the Thor comics Jason Aaron run and parts of the Mighty Thor run when Jane was found worthy and held the mantle when Thor was deemed unworthy. That in and of itself should have been difficult to pull off but they found a way to do it where it makes sense in the context of the story they were trying to tell. Taika Watiti is back in the director's chair for this one and his quirkiness is all over this movie. There are some touching moments in the movie that don't pop up out of nowhere and they are done with a lot of respect to the source material. Gorr's story in the comics is one of those where you understand why he did what he did and there were points where I did agree with him. Christian Bale does a great job of bringing him to the big screen. I was worried about how they were going to use Natalie Portman's Jane character but I liked how that particular story was adapted. From a visual standpoint it looks great, everything that worked in Ragnarok they brought back here. The music is also another plus as well as going hand in hand with the film. There are also a lot of cameos in this movie and they are all funny, especially Russell Crowe's portrayal of Zeus.
If there was one thing I didn't like I think we didn't get enough time with Gorr. The comic made him a little more sympathetic but that's because that story took up 25 issues. Also, there is a post-credit scene that I think should have been in the main movie, or at least the character that they showed should have shown up in the movie.
For Parents
The movie is well-paced and has a runtime of an hour and fifty-five minutes. They are two post-credit scenes and both are good and worth the stay in my opinion. It's rated PG-13 and is your standard Marvel superhero movie I think it's just fine for the little ones. There may be some questions you have to answer about mythology afterward as a couple of jokes have to deal with some aspects of Grecian mythology. Also, there is a little nudity but that was indicated in the trailer and it's played as a joke.
Overall
I think this movie is a lot of fun. It's not long and well-paced. The action is well done and the jokes are never dragged out. The touching parts of the story are well done in my opinion as well. This movie gets a MATINEE from me, perfect for a weekend afternoon. Have you seen Thor Love & Thunder? Leave a comment and let me know what you thought about the movie. Thanks for reading.
